Lets talk about economic moats.

The value investor has the dubious task to find undervalued securities that are well run and have wide . I want to focus on the latter of these topics in this discussion.

I'm interested in getting some dialog on identifying some of the more obscure stocks out there that have these wide moats and a durable competitive advantage. We all know some of the more famous ones out there like Walmart (WMT), Coke (KO), McDonald's (MCD) or Nike(NKE). Thats all fine and dandy, but lets pull out the ones that can be the next WMT.

How about American Tower (AMT)? These guys are right at the center of the mobile device revolution. They own, erect, and lease out many of the cell phone towers running these devices. We may take for granted the infrastructure we have here in the states, but all over the world these things are still going up at a rapid pace. Not to mention the networks need to be upgraded and maintained.

Any takers? List your moat-worthy stock and tell us about it. Maybe we can build a top 10 list out of this. To participate in the discussion visit our blog on or visit

Disclosure: is not currently a holder of any of the stocks mentioned in this post.
