Daily Market Commentary for June 19, 2008 from

With a majority of the major U.S. indices ending on a positive note, other major world indices posted losses. With a little help from China who announced it was raising prices on gas and diesel fuels to boost production and reduce demand, Crude oil moved lower. ()

At the closing bell on the Stock Exchange, here is how the major world indices and major U.S. indices ended the session on the world market as well as the emerging markets including the stock market closing price:

DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) gain of 31.69 points on the day to end the trading session at 12,063.58
NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) loss of 10.72 points to end the trading session at 8,988.84
NASDAQ gain of 31.69 points to end the trading session at 2,461.4
S&P 500 gain of 5.06 points to end the trading session at 1,342.87
FTSE All-World ex-U.S. loss of 1.33 points to end the trading session at 240.1
FTSE RAFI 1000 gain of 22.40 points to end the trading session at 5,289.94
BEL 20 (BEL20) loss of 79.31 points to end the trading session at 3,441.42
CAC 40 (CAC40) loss of 27.36 points to end the trading session at 4,591.39
FTSE100 (UKX100) loss of 48.5 points to end the trading session at 5,708.4
NIKKEI 225 (NIK/O) triple digit loss of 322.46 points to end the trading session at 14,130.2

Energy Sector: Light Crude (NYM) shed $4.75 on the day for a closing price of $131.93 a barrel ($US per bbl.); Heating Oil (NYM) shed $0.14 on the day for a closing price of $3.74 a gallon ($US per gal.); Natural Gas (NYM) shed $0.33 on the day for a closing price of $12.99 per million BTU ($US per mmbtu.); Unleaded Gas (NYM) shed $0.11 on the day for a closing price of $3.35 a gallon ($US per gal.).

Metals Markets: Gold Market Price (CMX) gained $10.70 on the day for a closing price of $904.20 ($US per Troy oz.); Silver (CMX) gained $0.13 on the day for a closing price of $17.47 ($US per Troy oz.); Platinum (NYM) shed $36.10 on the day for a closing price of $2,055.80 ($US per Troy oz.) and Copper (CMX) gained $0.03 on the day for a closing price of $3.78 ($US per lb.).

Livestock and Meat Markets (cents per lb.): Lean Hogs (CME) shed 0.63 on the day for a closing price of 75.45; Pork Bellies (CME) shed 0.43 on the day for a closing price of 72.18; Live Cattle (CME) shed 0.45 on the day for a closing price of 103.45; Feeder Cattle (CME) gained 0.60 on the day for a closing price of 111.10.
