First trading day after the Memorial Day holiday, the trading week started out on a slow note, which was to be expected. Many day traders and investors took extended vacations this week, adding to the light trading action. ()

At the closing bell on the Stock Exchange, here is how the major world indices and major U.S. indices ended the session on the U.S. Markets:
DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) gain of 68.72 points on the day to end the session at 12,548.35
NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) loss of 1.83 points to end the session at 9,313.95
NASDAQ gain of 36.57 points for a close at 2,481.24
S&P 500 gain of 9.42 points for a close at 1,385.35
FTSE All-World ex-U.S. loss of 1.08 points to close at 254.91
FTSE RAFI 1000 gain of 32.92 points for a close at 5,527.70
BEL 20 loss of 15.88 points to close at 3,656.04
CAC 40 loss of 27.21 points to close at 4,906.56
FTSE100 loss of 28.8 points to close at 6,058.50
NIKKEI 225 triple digit loss of 118.9 points to close at 13,893.30

Richmond Fed: May Services Revenues Index fell 6 versus April reading of a drop by 2; Richmond Fed: May Retail Revenues Index fell 28 versus April reading of a drop by 10; Richmond Fed: May Manufacturing Index fell 3 versus April reading of 0; Richmond Fed: May Mfg Shipments Index fell 1 versus April reading of 6.

U.S. March New Home Sales revised to 509,000 from 526,000 and U.S. April New Home Sales rose 3.3% to 526,000 compared to consensus of 533,000.

Consumer Confidence at a 16 year low. U.S. Conference Board May Consumer Confidence came in at 57.2 versus April reading of 62.8; U.S. Conference Board May Present Situation Index came in at 74.4 versus April reading of 81.9; Conference Board May Expectations Index came in at 45.7 versus April reading of 50.0.

Commodities Markets
Energy Sector: Light Crude (NYM) shed $3.34 on the day to close at $128.85 a barrel ($US per bbl.); Heating Oil (NYM) shed $0.07 on the day to close at $3.82 a gallon ($US per gal.); Natural Gas (NYM) shed $0.06 on the day to close at $11.92 per million BTU ($US per mmbtu.); Unleaded Gas (NYM) shed $0.01 on the day to close at $3.38 a gallon ($US per gal.).

Metals Markets: Gold (CMX) shed $19.20 to close at $906.60 ($US per Troy oz.); Silver (CMX) shed $0.83 to close at $17.47 ($US per Troy oz.); Platinum (NYM) shed $3.80 on the day to close at $2,180.11 ($US per Troy oz.) and Copper (CMX) shed $0.02 to close at $3.72 ($US per lb.).

Livestock and Meat Markets (cents per lb.): Lean Hogs (CME) shed 1.18 to close at 75.98; Pork Bellies (CME) shed 1.33 to close at 74.65; Live Cattle (CME) gained 0.20 to close at 101.50; Feeder Cattle (CME) gained 0.03 to close at 115.25.

Other Commodities (cents per bu.): Corn (CBT) shed 1.75 to close the session at 598.00 and Soybeans (CBT) shed 20.25 to close session at 1,347.75.

Bond action for the day: 2 year bond shed 4/32 to close at 99 8/32 with a Yield of 2.51, Yield Change +0.06; 5 year bond shed 8/32 to close at 99 17/32 with a Yield of 3.22, Yield Change +0.05; 10 year bond shed 5/32 to close at 99 26/32 with a Yield of 3.92, Yield Change +0.05; the 30 year bond shed 25/32 to close at 95 20/32 on the day with a Yield of 4.64, Yield Change +0.05.
