Help in picking between 2 stocks

Hi I am looking to invest $500. My pick right now is GE. They pay dividends and look good for the future. If it helps I'm 18.

The other option is in GM or Ford. These could possibly return a lot more money. I know they are doing bad right now, but I can't believe either one is going to go bankrupt. Even if one of them goes up $1.50 I could make a good amount of money but with GE they would have to go up more than a $1.50

So what do you guys think? Should I put half in GE and the other half in an auto company or just pick on.
