Annualized Total Return help

I'm new to investing and want to understand how to read the image below. Specifically, I want to know what the "Annualized Total Return" means. Why is the 1st year always so much higher than the 3rd, 5th, and 10th years? Also, can anyone give me an actual example with numbers? If I want to invest in Eaton Vance Large Cap Value A with $1,000 what will my returns be? Thanks in advance.
