What is a seller permit?

I saw the post that Great8 made and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a sellers permit is. I am kind of interested in starting up a printing shop in my town. Isn't a sellers permit a legal requirement for starting a brick and mortar business?

I was also wondering what is the cost of a sellers permit?

Usually a sellers permit will cost over $1000 as far as I know. It's true that you will need to buy a sellers permit from the state if you are selling products. This is usually because the state wants to keep track of sales tax and that sort of thing.

need to have a seller's permit

If you are going to be reselling products in your booth, then yes they will require a sellers permit.

So in other words, a service oriented company only needs a business license, to sell any type of product, then a business license and sellers permit will be required.
